WOW

the UN is going to roll out SAP

Early, but unconfirmed, reports from inside the UN estimate the value of the SAP contract at $300 million, which would make it one of the largest public-sector ERP deployments for SAP.

selection criteria:

"the software's performance in low-bandwidth locations, so as to ensure its ability to support remote peacekeeping operations."

I can understand this

To me, application flexibility and ease of use seem like they would top the UN's list of must haves. SAP's applications, on the other hand, have been dogged for years by complaints of complexity and difficulty of use.

This seems weak, ever ERP package is complex, but the user interface doesn't  have to be complex.

The real issue is people and leadership. Success is really based on the people.

Its always about the people

SAP is not easy. Most succeed

NEW YORK, NY and WALLDORF, GERMANY - SAP AG (NYSE: SAP)today announced that Hästens Beds, a privately owned luxury bed maker and retailer, has deployed core SAP® solutions in record time, gaining transparency across all parts of its business. As a result, Hästens now tracks orders seamlessly across purchasing, planning and transportation, and has achieved a 100 percent line fill-rate on promised orders. The announcement was made at the National Retail Federation Convention, being held Jan. 11-14 in New York, NY.

Others... not so much

January 14, 2009 (IDG News Service) A Colorado-based retail jewelry chain that filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Monday has partly attributed the move to rampant cost overruns and functionality problems on an SAP software implementation, according to a court filing.
